African Summit on Neglected Tropical Diseases

In these periods of rain, Wafac-Africa initiates a public awareness campaign in order to inform the populations on the need for having adequate behaviors in the endemic zones. Thus, the villages of the departments below were identified.

Water For All Children-Africa is an International Non Governmental Organization based in Benin.

Our vision:

Take part in the reduction of poverty by the control of certain diseases and the improvement of the state of the environment.

Our mission:

  • Fight for the wellbeing of the patients suffering from Buruli Ulcer and other environmental related diseases
  • Help the unprivileged sections of the population to have access to drinking water by the realization of drillings, wells and works of hygiene and cleansing

Our fight plans:

With regard to the fight against the Buruli Ulcer, Wafac-Africa undertakes its activities according to three action plans:

  • For an effective primary prevention, Wafac-Africa intends to build latrines, to install water drillings and drainage systems in the underprivileged zones. It carries out in the same way a great (sensibilization) through projects of public awareness campaigns
  • By the plea, Wafac-Africa wants to create a political adhesion to the fight against Buruli Ulcer.
  • Lastly, Wafac-Africa intends to initiate and carry out all the actions being able to contribute to relieve the sicked and handicapped people in order to support their social rehabilitation.

Our actions

Since its launching, Wafac-Africa equipped the health centers with materials of communication in order to reinforce the awareness campaigns. Wheel chairs were offered to the patients handicapped by Buruli Ulcer. Health centers were also equipped with mattresses. Wafac-Africa has participated to WHO Annual Meeting on Buruli Ulcer to Geneva on March 2008. Wafac-Africa with the support of the Beninese government and WHO has also organized the African Summit on Neglected Tropical Diseases in Cotonou on March 30 to April 3, 2009.

Future actions

Wafac-Africa will continue to equip the health centers with various gifts. Awareness campaigns on Buruli Ulcer will be accentuated. Drillings water, latrines and drainage systems will be built in certain localities.
